Welcome to the September edition of 'The Lookout'

Welcome to The Lookout bringing you a global perspective on issues that matter. In this edition, we put in focus the extraordinary 'lifetime of service'  with a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Our Co-Patron and Chair, Sir Don McKinnon is attending her funeral and remarked on her dedication during his nine years as Secretary General of the Commonwealth:

"I felt an enormous privilege knowing her during that time ... you knew she was on top of the issues and that she always believed there was much we could do for the Commonwealth. The Queen contributed an aura of stability when the political world was in convulsions."

Followed by leadership in action with Tom Farrey, Executive Director of the Institute’s Sports & Society Program, outlining three models for development of youth athletes with useful parallels for New Zealand. Plus, an in depth conversation of economic experts with The Wall Street Journal on stagflation.

Feedback from our recent Intergenerational Challenges seminar highlights the value of having a diversity of perspectives and the unique Aspen approach of readings based moderated dialogue.  U.S. Ambassador for NZ, Tom Udall had this to say:

"Had a great time connecting with the fine folks @NZAspen on this complex topic. Even better to talk with a few of our #USNZYouthCouncil members who also participated! Thanks for the stimulating discussion."

Watch out for details on our next seminar on Democracy, Digital Media and AI Challenges and a conversation with Aspen Kyiv on the latest developments in Ukraine.

You will also find  the usual  hand-picked  selection of  in-depth  analysis, moderated discussions, event invitations  and  prize-winning  publications  from a range of international viewpoints.  We invite you to curate your own content in a way that works for you and share with your friends.  We hope you enjoy it.
