War and Human Nature
Online
Friday 23 June
2:00 am - 3:00 am NZT
(22 June 10:00 am - 11:00 am EDT)
The war between Russia and Ukraine has unleashed a "new barbarism" that threatens the foundations of global civilization established after World War II. Russia is exploiting democratic values and institutions to undermine democracy and liberalism not only in Ukraine but also worldwide. The global system for protecting peace and human rights has crumbled under Russian attacks. The destruction of peaceful coexistence is not limited to Ukraine and can happen in any European country.
The upcoming event aims to discuss the war's lessons and the new global architecture of peace, with the participation of leading intellectuals from Ukraine, other European countries, and the United States.
Conversation speakers:
Volodymyr Yermolenko, Ukrainian philosopher, writer, and journalist, Director of Analytics, Internews Ukraine
Olexandra Matviychuk, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2022
Jonathan Littell, French and American writer, film director
Ambassador William B. Taylor, Vice President, U.S. Institute of Peace, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine from 2006 to 2009
Moderator: Susan B. Glasser, staff writer at The New Yorker.
We welcome Elliot Gerson and Natalie Jaresko, who will join us with welcoming remarks.
